šŸ’” The Big Idea

What if learning was as easy as using social media?

Today we’re exploring 7taps, an impressive mobile-first eLearning tool!

Like Instagram Stories… but educational

Learners tap their way through a series of ā€œcardsā€ to progress through the course. The bite sized courses can be accessed through any mobile browser (no app downloads required).

You’ll get the idea quickly by taking this hilarious Schitt’s Creek themed course on building trust.

Course creation is a breeze

ā€œCanva for eLearningā€ is the first thing that comes to mind when opening up the course editor. You don’t need to be an experienced instructional designer to create courses that look stylish.

Courses can include:

  • Quizzes

  • Soundbites

  • GIFs

  • Links to resources

  • An ā€œAI Videoā€ talking head that can speak 40+ languages

It’s hard to figure out if that last feature is impressive or creepy… decide for yourself.

Simple distribution and tracking

Learners access courses via secure link, QR-code, SMS, or email. No app downloads or logins are required, which greatly reduces the friction of getting users to log in to a traditional LMS.

Basic completion and engagement metrics are tracked after a course has been shared. It will be interesting to see if 7taps adds integrations with other LMS tools to encourage adoption by organizations that are already tracking learning completion through other tools.

Try it out!

With a monthly pro subscription users can get extra features and sharing options, but there’s also a free version to get started exploring the tool (check it out here).

There’s also a course creator contest running through August 25th: Anyone can create and share a course for a chance to win an iPad Air. Participants also get this sticker pack that will make instructional designers laugh (and cry):

šŸ”” Events and Workshops

🌓 Relax with a Virtual Stress Retreat for L&D Professionals hosted by Lumiere Learning Experiences on August 20th.

šŸ“£ The Black Instructional Designers Learning Exchange is hosting a series of great events that are open to everyone! Check out the full schedule below, and register here.
